Helen Ann Barta

Beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Helen passed away on August 21, 2012 at the age of 90 years.
Helen was born at home in Scappoose on November 9, 1921 and was a longtime resident until 2008. She then moved to the Hearthstone Retirement Community in Beaverton and was an active resident until her death.
She was the daughter of John and Mary Fischer Beno and older sister of Rev. Joseph Beno. Helen was married for 65 years to Joseph C. Barta and raised eight daughters and one son.
Helen was a woman of many talents--an avid gardener, terrific cook and baker, excellent seamstress, and creative artist. She was a dedicated member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Home Extension, Garden Club, Altar Society and the Election Board. She also managed the family fruit orchard business with her husband Joe. Helen cherished her Czech heritage, spoke and wrote the language and was able to visit relatives in the Czech Republic.
She is survived by her brother Joe, daughters: Janice Eric Parker, Carol Michael Galloway, Mary Erwin Thomas, Elaine MikeSawyer, Geralyn Randy Yost, Marge Jim McWade and DeAnne Keith Coppenger; son Joe Karen Barta; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe and daughter Joanie.
A Mass of Christian Burial and reception will be held on Thursday, August 30 at 11a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Scappoose.
