Marlys Linette German's Obituary
Marlys Linette German left with the angels on February 21, 2025 in Portland, OR at the
age of 87 with her oldest daughter Shelly at her side. She was born December 13,
1937 in Beresford, South Dakota to her late parents Lyle and Linnea Swanson, both
born and raised in Beresford, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her
husband of 53 years, Daniel German, son Scott German, little brother Danny Swanson
and sister-in-law Rosalinn Swanson.
Marlys’ family moved from Beresford to Portland, OR when she was just 3 years old.
Later, the Swanson’s would move to a small farm in Warren, OR where Marlys would
spend the rest of her life growing up, graduating from Scappoose High School in 1955,
getting married to Dan in 1957 and raising her 4 children. She was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother and great grandmother and as the family photographer and
videographer was always ready with camera and a smile to document family
milestones.
Marlys was an avid gardener becoming a Master Gardener and spending many
summers over at the fairgrounds helping prepare the Master Gardeners exhibit garden.
She also enjoyed working at the St Helen’s Walmart for over 15 years.
Marlys is survived by her daughters Shelly (Jim) Beardsley of North Plains, OR and
Sandra (Chris) Hull of Eugene, OR and son Daniel (Marcos) German-Domingues of
Boston, MA. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren, Shawna of North Plains and
Travis Beardsley of Beaverton, Josh (Alicia), and Jake (Sophi) Hull of Eugene, Danny
Boyd and Robbie German both of California, Amanda (Joel) Zaborowski, Lynea
(Matthew) Zaborowski, Tessa and Andreas German of Massachusetts and Austin
German of Eugene and 11 great grandchildren as well as nieces including Ashley
(Jason), Rachel (Nate), Heather (Jon), Susan (John) and nephews Russ, Marc (Laura),
Chris (Lorrie) and Eric (Stephanie), and great nieces and great nephews. She is also
survived by her older brother Jerry Swanson of Antioch, California, sister-in-law
Micaela Swanson of Nampa, ID and her dearest friend and companion Floyd Adams of
Warren, OR.
The family would like to especially thank Eden Adult Foster Home, owners and staff in
Beaverton, OR for their loving care of Marlys in the past several months.
A Funeral Service will be held for Marlys at Columbia Funeral Home, 681 Columbia
Blvd, St. Helens, OR on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow at St.
Helens Elks Lodge, 350 Belton Rd, St. Helens, OR.
