Mary Elizabeth Woldeit's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Woldeit passed away July 4, 2012 in St Helens her hometown for over 80 years. She was born April 2, 1923 at her family's home in Chapman, Oregon. She was one of 10 children born to Samuel Farmer and Hazel Blanche Kennedy Goodall. She went by Betty Woldeit. She was 89.
She attended schools in Chapman and graduated from St Helens High School class of 1941 and graduated from Hollywood University of Beauty in June 1942 with special honors.
She married Paul Woldeit on August 30, 1942. While he served as a US Marine in the South Pacific she operated her own beauty shop and bought and paid for their only home living there for 69 years. Betty continued her hair skills from her home after selling the business.
Upon Paul's return she began filling her home with her great love - a family. Betty and Paul raised four children. Surviving her are children Ron Pearl, Diana Gary, Rick Valerie and Sandra and was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. They adopted a grandchild, Teasha.
Betty had a heart of gold and volunteered many hours in the community. She worked for 22 years as a dietary aide at the St Helens Hospital. A writer hailed her in The Chronicle as having a "million dollar smile". Her other love was her church family at Columbia Christian Center where she shared a strong faith and ministered to those in need.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 13, 2012 at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens.
Private vault interment will be at Columbia Memorial Gardens in Scappoose, Oregon.
