Maxine Cook's Obituary
Graveside services will be held, 2:00 PM, Friday, February 4th at Columbia Memorial Gardens. Maxine passed away, January 29 in Portland, Oregon. She was 90 years of age.
Born, July 23, 1920 at Akron, Colorado to Clarence Leroy and Alice Syrinia Pierson Shadley, the fifth of seven children. The family moved to St. Helens when she was 6 years old. Maxine attended Warren Grade School and graduated from Scappoose High School in 1939. Maxine married Wilbert Sanford Cook on September 1, 1940 in Vancouver, Washington. They were married for 68 years. From this union they had two children, David and Dyxie. While her husband served in the navy in World War II, she worked at the Bemis Bag Factory in St. Helens. Later she worked for Gainer's Food Market and for the St. Helens School District in the kitchens of John Gumm, Deer Island and Condon schools. Maxine and her husband attended Warren Baptist Church for many years and were charter members of Warren Community Fellowship. She and the family enjoyed camping at Cultus Lake in Central Oregon. Mostly, she just enjoyed being at home. Maxine is survived by her son and his wife; David and Sandra Cook of Columbia City, sister; Bonnie Staff of St. Helens, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Dyxie Lee Young.
