Ron's compassion for others was remarkable. As service chief's together, if I ever had a question, I knew I could count on Ron for a quick, reliable response. These pictures of him smiling bring back such wonderful memories of a man who truly walked the talk. I am deeply saddened to hear about his heart attack. What a loss for those around him, especially family. Deanne Carlisle
I was transferred to Police Service to work with Capt. Ron McLaughlin and the Police force at the Portland VA. Ron made me feel so welcome in a world that was all men in Uniform! I learned about respect, honor and treating all Veterans with compassion working with Ron and the officers. We worked hard but always found time for breakfast, great jokes and fun. I miss you Ron. Thank you for all the consideration you gave me and all around you. God Bless you and your family.
I always enjoyed working with Ron. He started as a police officer a year or so before I got to the VA. There are a lot of memories I could share about Ron, especially when he and I drove the cargo van to/from Camp Chaparral back in 2003, and many others. I know he will be missed by friends, family and former co-workers. Our condolences to Ron's family.

Brad and I are so very sorry for your loss. Ron was such a gentle and kind person. Always had that wonderful smile. Such fond memories of the 3 Musketeers (Ron, Tom and Brad) always having their pow wows and of course clearing our road from snow. I would laugh as Brad would be somewhere on the property and then I would look and the other 2 would be gathered. The year we had about 18" of snow overnight and Brad happened to be out of state. I got a phone call at 6:30 that morning from Ron asking if I was o.k. or needed any help. Then a little later here were Tom and Ron and I had Brad on the phone so the cat could get going and the road cleared so we all could get out and up the hill. It is such a blessing to have such great neighbors. Thank you. Ron touched so many hearts and will forever be in ours. We are here for you Diana... R.I.P. Ron.... Loves Brad and Linda
Miss you much
Ron was a wonderful man, I worked for him 10 years. He was a great police officer and an awesome person to work for. As I moved onto become a police chief he always kept in touch. Ron would call me monthly just to say hi. He was my friend and will be missed dearly...
