Verne K. Evans' Obituary
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 7, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Fredric Catholic Church in St. Helens, Oregon, for Verne Kenneth Evans. Surrounded by his family, Verne passed away from kidney cancer at his home on Friday, June 29.
He was 84 years old.
Verne K. Evans was born the 5th of 6 children to Stark LaVere and Ingaborg Maria Nylund Evans on February 4, 1928 in Port Angeles, Washington.
Verne served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was an aviation mechanic stationed in Japan.
Verne married Marilyn Jane Boyd in Tacoma on May 21, 1953. He worked at Peninsula Plywood in Port Angeles from 1959 until 1971. Later that year the family moved to St. Helens, Oregon where Verne worked at Multnomah Plywood from 1972 until 1990, when he retired as a Journeyman Electrician. He was a member of St. Fredric Catholic Church for the past 41 years. Verne also was a 50 year member of the Pleasant Mountain Grange.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid salmon fisherman, loving father, and a good neighbor.
Verne is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 59 years, and 5 children - Ron Evans of Issaquah, WA, Luci Evans-Chambers of Port Angeles, WA, David Evans of St. Helens, OR, Jim Evans of Portland, OR, and Mark Evans of Warren, OR. He had 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is aslo survived by two sisters, Vera Klock of Sekiu, WA, and Edith Coburn of Gresham, OR.
Verne was preceded in death by siblings Mary Petroff, Charles Evans, and Sidney Evans.
